ABOUT US
A passion for North African craft and rustic Berber and
Islamic elements inspires Medina, the mid-Atlantic's
wholesale resource for hand-crafted Moroccan home
furnishings and accessories. Wrought iron,
intricate ornamentation, and roughly woven grasses
inform the aesthetic that blends rich accessible luxury
with livable style and international flair. Medina
home furnishings are warm, welcoming, and add interest
and depth to any decor.
British ex-pat and owner
John Wilson's graduate studies in social anthropology at
Cambridge University and subsequent research and travels
in Africa and the Middle East shaped his continuing
fascination with Moorish stylistic elements.
"Marrakech is a crossroads of design," says Wilson.
"Many European designers are working there now,
injecting timelessness with a modern aesthetic.
You see this happening everywhere in Morocco, impulses
coming together from all over the world and creating
amazingly beautiful things."
With a
twenty-year commitment to offering unique items produced
by Moroccan artisans, Morocco is a fair-trade business
honoring the needs of two cultures. "These objects
offer an opportunity to show solidarity with the world
culture and participate in the world that values the
beauty and uniqueness of the handmade," says Wilson.
"They will last more than a lifetime, and you can feel
the spirit of the person who made them."
